The UK is poised to announce the imposition of a tax on electronic cigarettes.

据外媒Reports suggest that UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt, is anticipated to announce the imposition of an "Electronic Cigarette Product Tax" whilst unveiling the government budget on March 6th.

This tax imposition will mirror the schemes of 15 European nations, including Germany, which levies a tax of €1.60 ($1.73) per 10ml of e-cigarette liquid, and Italy, with a tax rate of €1.30. The European Union also harbours plans to impose an e-cigarette tax across all 27 member states.

The UK will levy higher tax rates on products with elevated nicotine content. As reported by The Times, the tobacco tax will also witness a one-time hike, ensuring that e-cigarettes remain a more affordable alternative. These two measures are projected to raise over £500 million ($633.73 million) in funds annually by the fiscal years 2028-2029.
